Money money money

I have been very much into saving money lately. I've gotten into shopping weekly and matching sales and coupons and such. I go to 4-5 stores every week but I get great deals so I'm okay with it. :) I planned from the beginning to try to stay under $100 each week and I've done good with that guideline but yesterday was my best yet. I spent only $81.17 when I went shopping last night. And almost $20 of that was on non-grocery items (stuff I needed for a wedding I'm in tomorrow and something for my Mother's Day Out class). So on household items and groceries I spent only $63.05 for the week! I was super excited. :) But I really need to get Melissa potty-trained b/c the weeks I have to buy diapers it totally throws off my budget!

On that note, there is a week between when I'm done with MDO and when public schools start and I'm going to start substitute teaching when I have no plans (as of yet...) so I'm planning to block out that week for some hard-core potty-training. Any tips or advice will be appreciated!

Headed this afternoon to Daingerfield and tomorrow one of my very best friends is getting MARRIED! I'm excited for her and can't wait to see how Kyler and Melissa will do as flower girl and ring bearer... I'm taking them Monday to get pictures at JCPenney in their wedding clothes because they are just TOO cute!

EXCITING NEWS OF THE WEEK: We're making plans to go to DISNEY WORLD! A friend of mine was telling some of us girls about a great deal she got on a Disney vacation package for the week of Thanksgiving so I called and was able to get the same deal. We'll be driving, can't afford plane tickets, but the trip is going to be WAY cheaper than I ever expected a trip to Disney World to cost us. I'm really really really excited (I've never been before!). We'll be leaving here the Friday before Thanksgiving and arriving in Orlando Saturday morning/early afternoon. Then we'll head home Tuesday. I can't wait and I hope the kids have a blast!

Pacifiers

Melissa has always been a good sleeper. She's also always loved her pacifier. We decided yesterday it was time to do away with the paci and Melissa is NOT happy about it.

With Kyler we just cut the tips off of all his pacifiers and when he went to bed that night they were "broken." He was fine with it. He went to sleep and never asked about his paci again. But that is also around the time that he started fighting naps.

We decided that we would try the same approach with Melissa that we tried with Kyler. I cut off the tips of her pacifiers last night before bed. When she first realized it was broken she started crying! Her heartbroken little face was so sad. I told her she was a big girl and that she could sleep without her paci now. She wasn't happy but when I left the room she did go right to sleep.

This afternoon when I put her down for her nap (at 12:30) she asked for her paci again. I told her that it was broken and she's a big girl now so she doesn't need to sleep with a paci. She cried and told me that I could get a new paci at Wal-Mart. Yeah, did I mention that Kyler was younger when we got rid of his paci? She's older and much more observant. Anyway, that was 3 hours ago. She's still in her bed. She still hasn't gone to sleep. I CANNOT handle two kids who refuse to nap. I will stay strong for a few more days but if she's not going to nap without her paci I will without a doubt give in and go buy a new one. She still needs her naps and I NEED naptime!

My Night (and Morning) from Hell

Literally. Satan has to have had a hand in my last 8-9 hours.

I went to bed about 10:30 or 11. Later than I should have, but whatever. Around 11:30, right around the time I was really drifting off I hear the cry of a child. It was Kyler and he was sobbing and coughing. When I finally got him to calm down and relax he didn't want to lay down and go back to sleep. So I made a stupid horrible suggestion that must have come directly from Satan himself. I asked if he wanted us to make him a pallet on the floor in our room. BAD idea. The child moves SO much when he's sleeping, snores and talks in his sleep. I am a light sleeper. There is a reason my children have never and will never sleep in my room. Finally around 12:45 I had had enough and I picked him up and deposited him back in his own bed. Got to sleep around 1:30.

Then at 3:30 I wake up b/c there is excess light coming into my room. I get up to check on him and he had gotten up to go potty and then he got back in bed. He was sitting in the corner of his bed against the wall just staring into space. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "Reading books." Which is what he's supposed to do when he wakes up in the morning and the little hand isn't on the 7 yet. But when it's 6 or 6:30, not 3:30 in the morning! I told him he needed to lay down and go back to sleep b/c it was still dark and that's when I realize he was super hot - his fever had shot up. Great. So I got him some medicine, put him back to bed and went to bed myself. This time I got to sleep around 4:30.

Thankfully, God was merciful and Melissa slept until 7:30 instead of the recently usual 7. I've had 5 1/2 hours of sleep tonight and I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through the day. My body needs a lot of sleep.

Anyway, back to the story. I woke up at 7:30 to Melissa screaming. I walk into her room and what do I find? Blood everywhere. Seriously. On her face, hands, legs, clothes, sheet, blanket, pillow. Her nose had started bleeding and apparently continued for some time. My kids periodically get nose bleeds when they are congested and their nose is dry but this one was horrible. Naturally, it would be after a night like the one I've just had.

OH and then while I'm cleaning up that mess Melissa decides to make her way into sleeping Kyler's room. I found her staring at him and grabbed her. She started crying as we went out but Kyler didn't wake up. He's still asleep, thank you, God.

So far Melissa has spilled her cereal twice this morning. Ugh. We're gonna have one heck of a day.
